Object art

TAMTAM’s theatre performances are crossovers between theatre and visual arts. So it’s not surprising that Gérard Schiphorst and Marije van der Sande also make visual art with found objects. Object art. Often their work has a high level of theatricality. The performance has come to a standstill and goes on in the imagination of the viewer. Some of the works on display are still for sale.

The beauty of the perishable, the talents of the discarded, these are not only the ingredients of the performances but also the basis of the visual work. It changes the perspective of the viewer on the worthless things, first ignored because they were lying in the gutter or hidden in the back of a barn.

Exhibitions
The object art can regularly be seen at exhibitions. Some examples from the past: Tafelhalle (Nürnberg, Germany), Kröller-Müller Museum (Otterlo), Oerol (Terschelling), Concordia (Enschede), Kunstenlab (Deventer), DRU factory (Ulft). Gallery De Kunsten (Deventer), Bergkerk (Deventer), Bookstore Praamstra (Deventer), Park Randenbroek (Amersfoort).

In 2021, TAMTAM realized a theatrical installation in the new Toy Museum in Deventer, which also includes visual work.

Object Art at Puppetmasters expo in Jan Cunen Museum, Oss

Following the successful object art exhibition at MIMIK in May and June of this year, there’s new opportunity to see our latest visual work.
Ten of our works will be on display at the Jan Cunen Museum in Oss from September 14th to January 25th in the beautiful exhibition “Puppetmasters.”

The works on display resemble tranquil theater scenes or stills of characters from imagined performances.
While the TAMTAM performances are textless and visual, clearly related to visual art, these works have an unmistakable theatricality about them.
