Object art

TAMTAM’s theatre performances are crossovers between theatre and visual arts. So it’s not surprising that Gérard Schiphorst and Marije van der Sande also make visual art with found objects. Object art. Often their work has a high level of theatricality. The performance has come to a standstill and goes on in the imagination of the viewer. Some of the works on display are still for sale.

The beauty of the perishable, the talents of the discarded, these are not only the ingredients of the performances but also the basis of the visual work. It changes the perspective of the viewer on the worthless things, first ignored because they were lying in the gutter or hidden in the back of a barn.

Exhibitions
The object art can regularly be seen at exhibitions. Some examples from the past: Tafelhalle (Nürnberg, Germany), Kröller-Müller Museum (Otterlo), Oerol (Terschelling), Concordia (Enschede), Kunstenlab (Deventer), DRU factory (Ulft). Gallery De Kunsten (Deventer), Bergkerk (Deventer), Bookstore Praamstra (Deventer), Park Randenbroek (Amersfoort).

In 2021, TAMTAM realized a theatrical installation in the new Toy Museum in Deventer, which also includes visual work.

Object art exposition in MIMIK, Deventer (NL)

On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of TAMTAM, a new object art exposition has been installed in the MIMIK theatre in Deventer, with mostly new work made for this exhibition.

Studio TAMTAM in full swing: building the artworks. This is a delicate job, because we use old and weathered materials that need special care when assembling, to prevent them from falling apart and to preserve them as part of a work of art.
